Guide
Install a skill in Claude.
Two minutes, no code to write. A skill is a folder containing a SKILL.md file: Claude reads it and applies its method when your request matches.
What’s in the zip.
Each pack downloads as a single zip file, for example clients-pack.zip. Once unzipped:
README.txt the steps, in short outreach-message/ one folder per skill, for Claude Code SKILL.md follow-ups/ SKILL.md … zips-claude-ai/ one zip per skill, for claude.ai outreach-message.zip follow-ups.zip …
claude.ai
On claude.ai.
In the browser, or in the app signed in to the same account. You need a Claude plan that supports skills.
- Unzip the pack. Inside you’ll find the
zips-claude-aifolder, with one zip per skill. - Open the skills settings on claude.ai:
Settings › Capabilities › SkillsSkills need code execution: if it’s turned off, turn it on from the same page.
- Upload the zips one by one from
zips-claude-ai. One zip = one skill. Don’t upload the whole pack’s zip. - Check that they’re turned on, then start a new conversation.
Claude Code
In Claude Code.
Claude Code reads skills from a folder on your computer. To use them in all your projects, put them in your home folder:
- The skills folder is:
~/.claude/skills/ - Copy each skill folder into it (the one containing SKILL.md). In a terminal, from the folder where you downloaded the zip:
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills unzip clients-pack.zip -d clients-pack for d in clients-pack/*/; do [ -f "$d/SKILL.md" ] && cp -R "${d%/}" ~/.claude/skills/ doneReplace
clients-packwith the name of your pack. You can also copy the folders by hand: on a Mac,Cmd + Shift + .shows hidden folders. - Start a new Claude Code session: skills are loaded at startup.
- The skills folder is:
%USERPROFILE%\.claude\skills\ - Copy each skill folder into it (the one containing SKILL.md). In PowerShell, from the folder where you downloaded the zip:
New-Item -ItemType Directory -Force "$HOME\.claude\skills" | Out-Null Expand-Archive clients-pack.zip -DestinationPath clients-pack Get-ChildItem clients-pack -Directory | Where-Object { Test-Path (Join-Path $_.FullName 'SKILL.md') } | Copy-Item -Destination "$HOME\.claude\skills" -RecurseReplace
clients-packwith the name of your pack. You can also copy the folders by hand in File Explorer. - Start a new Claude Code session: skills are loaded at startup.
.claude/skills/ at the root of the project instead of your home folder.Using
Then just ask.
There’s no command to remember. Each skill has a description that says when it applies: when your request matches, Claude uses it on its own and tells you.
To check the installation
Ask Claude: “Which skills do you have available?” It should list the ones you just installed.
To pick the skill yourself
Name it in your request: “Use the follow-ups skill for this client.”
Troubleshooting
If it doesn’t work.
The skill doesn’t show up in Claude Code
Check that the SKILL.md file sits directly in the skill’s folder (
~/.claude/skills/follow-ups/SKILL.md), with no extra folder in between. Don’t rename the folder: its name must stay the skill’s name. Then start a new session.claude.ai rejects the file
Upload a zip from the
zips-claude-aifolder, one skill at a time. The whole pack’s zip contains several skills and isn’t accepted as is.The Skills option is nowhere to be found
Your plan may not support skills, or your organization has turned them off. Also check that code execution is turned on.
The skill doesn’t trigger
Phrase your request as a concrete situation (“They haven’t replied in eight days”), or name the skill. On claude.ai, check that it’s turned on in the settings.
Questions
Frequently asked questions.
Can I install them on claude.ai and in Claude Code?
Yes. The two installations are independent: follow both procedures, with the same pack.
How do I update a pack?
Download it again from your download page, which always gives the latest version. Replace the folders in Claude Code, or re-upload the zips on claude.ai.
Can I edit a skill?
Yes: open its SKILL.md in a text editor and change the tone, the steps or the rules. Keep the “name” line identical to the folder name. For claude.ai, zip the folder again and re-upload it.
How do I uninstall a skill?
On claude.ai, turn it off or delete it in Settings › Capabilities. In Claude Code, delete its folder in ~/.claude/skills/.
Does it work on the free plan?
Skills require a Claude plan that supports them. Check Anthropic’s current terms, they may change.
